California Tribal Casino Acquires Body Temperature Kiosks Ahead of June Reopening

A tribal casino in California is buying kiosks that allow guests and employees to have their body temperatures scanned without making contact with the machine.
The Chumash Casino Resort, owned and operated by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Mission Indians, has been closed since mid-March by the coronavirus. Last week, the tribal casino announced it will remain closed through the end of May.
When the casino reopens, the facility will be equipped with temperature-taking kiosks. Chumash Casino CEO John Elliott didn’t specify as to the number of kiosks being purchased, but explained people will approach the machine, stand approximately 10 inches away, and the device will reveal their body temperature within three to seven seconds.
The kiosks are FDA-cleared and are as accurate as a manual temperature reading,” said tribal chairman Kenneth Kahn. Each machine can scan one individual at a time.
People who receive a temperature reading of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher will be denied entry. “Access will be denied to employees or guests who exceed the temperature threshold recommended by the CDC or Public Health,” Kahn added.
California has 42,164 confirmed COVID-19 cases, and 1,710 deaths.
Safety First
Located about two hours drive northwest from Los Angeles along the 101, the Chumash Casino features 2,300 slot machines and 45 table games. The property’s 230-room hotel is one of only six AAA four diamond casino resorts in California – the others being Barona Casino, Morongo Casino Resort, Pechanga Resort & Casino, Thunder Valley Casino Resort, and Viejas Casino.
The 2019 coronavirus is said to be a highly contagious disease, but some carriers are asymptomatic. To stop the spread of the respiratory disease by individuals unaware they’re carrying the coronavirus, Chumash will implement various safeguards.
Enhanced cleaning and social distancing practices will remain in place for the foreseeable future. Personal protection equipment, including face masks and splash guards, will also be available to guests and employees.
“Fever is the leading indicator of infection, and the best predictor of infection spread or contagiousness,” explained Khan. “We are working with state and local authorities, and will determine an opening date in concert with the rest of the region.”
Kiosk Details
The California tribal casino did not say which manufacturer is behind its temperature kiosks. The devices are likely to become a staple of the gaming industry in the months and potentially years ahead.
In Macau, the world’s richest gaming hub, casinos reopened with body temperature checks. Casino.org revealed earlier this month that Las Vegas casino executives met to discuss potential safeguards for when their properties reopen, and such kiosks were considered.
A quick Google search for body temperature kiosks turned up numerous manufacturers and products.
A product called VitalSign is a specially designed temperature-check tablet that uses “an advanced algorithm for detecting and calculating heat signatures.” The companies behind the device claim it alerts people who are running a high temperature “within one second and from three feet away.”
VitalSign claims its body temperature readings are accurate within +/- 0.5 degrees Fahrenheit.

I live in ventura county and i have friends that work administrative positions at local hospitals and they have been instructed to bill every death as a desth caused by covid 19 even if they died for another reason. All deaths are reported as being caused by the virus because the hospital gets paid $49,000. For each covid death. ALSO All the doctors and nurses that work ER have been sent home and a whole team of doctors and nurses brought from out of state are now working in the ER while regular employees are at home. The way i see it is they bring in outsiders to work ER BECAUSE THEY WANT THEM TO LIE ABOUT THE CAUSE OF DEATH. All this control placed on us by the governnent and letting one person dictate what how and when we do everything is against our constitutional rights IT IS COMMUNISM! People need to stand up.
If people do not mind taking the risk and want a day out at the casino that is their business and not yours. Its a free country!
If we are so worried about speading or getting the virus, then maybe we should shut down all grocery stores Walmart's they're just like the casinos they have people touching everything . I think if this virus is as bad as they say it is, and i believe it is .and it is spreading this fast. With no slowed down since we've had the stay-at-home order. i think we're going to all get it anyways so what's the difference ?in my opinion by the end of the year everybody in the world will have it .As fast as it's spreading ,and nothing seems to be slowing it down. Why make it even worse? By making some people suffer ? With bills pilling up ,not knowing were the next meals coming from . And the funny thing is the welfair chid support agency is still running faster than ever the child support office taking the check from the IRS for a child support dated back to 1983 I mean come on if you'e going to shut down the whole usa ,dont you think it would stop this welfair child support from taking a death insurance policy my mom left me when she died Jan 1 2020. The goverment was right on that ,to take that. But never even credited to the amount they say i owe. Sorry I'm getting a little bit out of the contents but my point is if you're going to shut down the United States shut down the whole United States stopped going at what they want to do and what they don't want to do. How am i suppost to feed my family ? With no job no money ,no family to help , what do they expect for people in My situation or people even in a worse situation than mine what do they expect us to ?

Current science on covid-19 is not being followed here. Contrary to what "Khan" said, up to 50% of people with covid are 100% asymptomatic and still spread the virus. Another group may have covid-19 symptoms but no fever -- the CDC just expanded the list of symptoms, too. So while it's always a good idea to keep people with a fever out of your casino -- it could be the flu -- this is no magic bullet for identifying people with covid-19. You might catch half if you're lucky. This action seems to be based on recommendations CDC was putting out several months ago.
Not much of a kiosk. Appears to be device mounted to pole. 10 inches is pretty close and they should have FDA doc and/or be listed on FDA site. I don't see it.
