A suspect wanted for his wife’s recent fatal shooting was apprehended Tuesday in Las Vegas’ Mardi Gras Hotel & Casino.
Arthur Guty Jr., 55, had $100K in cash in his possession when Las Vegas cops took him into custody in connection with the Pennsylvania killing.
Guty is suspected of murdering Nicole Zambrano, 26, within the last few days. Her body was discovered at the couple’s Uniontown, Pa., residence on Monday.
Police tracked Guty to Las Vegas by checking cell phone pings. Las Vegas police staked out the casino for about 12 hours before spotting him.
Eventually, he was apprehended while eating breakfast at the casino. Pennsylvania authorities are currently trying to extradite him from Nevada.
A Pennsylvania warrant charges him with criminal homicide and aggravated assault. He’s yet to be formally charged on the counts.
Planning to Flee
“He was on his way, we believe, out of the country, with a significant amount of cash, and was going to avoid, or try to avoid, any responsibility for what happened here,” Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele told Pennsylvania TV station WTAE.
Zambrano, a native Venezuelan who worked as a housekeeper at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, missed work last week for three days. Work colleagues became concerned and notified police.
Local police contacted Guty and asked him where his wife was. He provided inaccurate and conflicting information, authorities told WTAE.
First, Ms. Zambrano was in Richmond with a friend. In Florida with Mr. Guty to see his father and a dentist. And also in Richmond, Virginia to meet with Mr. Guty eventually at the Grand Canyon,” Aubele told Pennsylvania TV station WPXI.
In a recent interview, Guty’s neighbor, Bob Luick, recalled to WPXI, “He made a statement maybe a month ago that he thought she was messing around on him. And this is exactly the way he said it, ‘If I find out she’s messing around, I’ll kill her,’” Luick revealed.
He Was Target of Murder Plot
It also was reported that Guty was the target of a murder-for-hire scheme organized by his first wife, Roxanne Guty, in 2019. She attempted to hire a hitman for half of her then-husband’s life insurance policy. She pled guilty to lesser charges.
That case isn’t connected to last month’s murder.
“We don’t believe that those cases are related in any way at this time. Yes, it is bizarre, definitely bizarre,” Aubele recently told WPXI.
