An armed intruder was shot after a Pennsylvania home invasion on Monday. The suspect had followed a woman from a nearby casino and once inside her house, the woman’s adult son wounded the robber.

The suspect, identified as Khabir Shepard, allegedly pointed a handgun at the woman and forced his way into her Abington Township, Pa. residence at about 1 a.m.

Shepard pushed the victim to the floor and snatched her purse from a dining room table, police said.

Cries for Help

“The victim screamed for help from her adult son, who was asleep in a rear bedroom,” local police said in a statement.

The man awoke after hearing his mother’s cries for help.

The victim’s son retrieved his legally owned firearm and ran to his mother’s aid. The victim’s son observed Shepard’s firearm and fearing for his mother’s life, fired two shots at Shepard,” the police statement revealed.

Shepard was wounded in the back and arm. He was able to run from the residence but once outside, the robber collapsed on the front lawn, police said.

The victims quickly alerted the Abington Township Police Department whose officers soon arrived at the Horace Avenue residence.

Robber Treated at Hospital

Shepard was placed into police custody before being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of his wounds. He was later released and booked on several charges, including robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and carrying a firearm without a license.

The handgun Shepard is believed to have used in the crime was found at the scene.

Earlier this week, Shepard was arraigned in local court. He remained in custody at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility as of Wednesday on bail of $250K.

If convicted on the charges, Shepard could be sentenced to prison. He has yet to enter pleas on the charges.

Neither the woman nor her son was injured during the armed confrontation.

Abington Township is located about 16 miles north of Philadelphia. Several gaming properties are situated nearby.
