The dealer, identified as Jianming Li of Delaware, and a casino guest, Jun Na Zhang of New York, were charged following two incidents in November 2019.

Under the scheme in the casino’s high-limit room, Li memorized the card sequence and revealed it to Zhang, authorities said.

Both were sentenced for two counts of cheating and swindling more than $1,000, and for a single count of larceny over $1,200 by a single scheme.

Li was given a 364-day sentence, which was suspended for two years.

Zhang was given a 364-day sentence that called for him to serve six months in prison. It too was suspended for two years.

Bus Driver Murdered Over Gambling Debt

A San Jose, Calif. man was charged with murder after he allegedly fatally shot a co-worker over a gambling debt.

On September 22, Duc Minh Bui, 33, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Regulus “Reggie” Teotico, 45.

Both worked at the Valley Transportation Authority and the victim was shot on September 20 at the Chaboya Division Yard, according to People magazine.

Teotico and Bui often spent time together after work hours.

“They were known to participate in the same activities outside of their VTA employment,” Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Capt. Sugey Jaimez told The Mercury News, a California news outlet. “We believe the motive had to do with money owed between the two from their betting activities, which had nothing to do with their employment.”

Suspect Had Someone Else Collect Winnings: Cops

A man was arrested this week after he allegedly had another casino visitor collect his $2,500 payout.

Henry Rogan, 61, of Terre Haute, Indiana. was arrested on Tuesday for the plot at the Bally’s Casino in Evansville, Ind. He was booked at the Vanderburgh County Jail.

In 2022, Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) officers approached Rogan in the casino and let him know that having someone else collect a jackpot is a criminal offense, according to Indiana TV station WEVV.

Rogan responded that he let the other man collect the cash because that man previously had given him money to gamble, police said. Rogan also said the two men “played together often” at the Bally’s Casino. Under further questioning, Rogan admitted to the officers he owed child support money. That would mean the state would seize any casino winnings to cover the back child support.

Later, the IGC officers questioned the other man. It turned out that he didn’t even know Rogan, and claimed that Rogan approached him about participating in the scheme, police said. The two men were strangers before that, police added.
