A woman suffered head injuries after being struck with a bat at Henderson, Nev.’s M Resort Spa & Casino on Sunday.

The unnamed victim was taken to a local hospital for emergency treatment but there was no word on the extent of her injuries.

The assault took place in the gaming property’s parking lot shortly before 3 p.m.

It’s unclear if Henderson police identified a suspect.

One news report said the assault took place after a road rage incident. Another said the motive was robbery.

Hundreds Cited During DUI Enforcement

Close to 300 motorists were arrested or issued a citation for DUI and other charges over the past weekend in Nevada.

Nevada officials revealed:

  • 540 vehicles were stopped
  • 255 citations were issued
  • Police made 32 DUI arrests
  • There were 13 arrests for other charges

“Remember that one DUI arrest is potentially a life saved, and that life could’ve been your family or your friend,” Nevada State Police Major Kevin Honea said in a statement last week.

The special enforcement was done to honor Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Sergeant Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix. Both died following injuries from an intoxicated motorist on I-15 in Las Vegas on Nov. 30, 2023, authorities said.

“I think it means a little bit to each and every one of us to keep their memory alive,” Honea said. “What we’re hammering home tonight is save a life for Felix and Abbate.”

Vegas Cops Boost Security for Shoppers

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) will boost its presence with the start of the holiday shopping season.

The increased enforcement began on Thanksgiving weekend and will continue through December, and officers will be on patrol in shopping centers and other popular retail locations. Some of the locations where more officers will be patrolling include Target, Walmart, and the Las Vegas North Premium Outlets, according to police.

Some officers will be in uniforms while others will be undercover. LVMPD drones will also be used in the stepped-up patrol.

“During the holidays, generally, from Thanksgiving to the end of the year, we see an influx in theft at retail markets,” LVMPD Captain Johnathan Riddle recently told Las Vegas TV station KTNV. “The mere presence of them being there — we expect that to push the criminals elsewhere off the property where there might traditionally be crimes of opportunity.”

Shoppers can take some precautions, too, police advised. These include placing purchased merchandise in a trunk or inside the vehicle where it can’t be seen by passersby. One other precaution is driving home and unloading the car between shopping stops.

“Criminals are looking for an opportunity where someone is not paying attention, so just be paying attention,” Riddle said.
