Fallout from an end-of-season recreational trip to Las Vegas late last year has resulted in the separation of more than one member of Australia’s Brisbane Lions football team from their romantic partners, reports Britain’s Daily Mail.
The bombshell was dropped on Friday by Sam McClure, a sports reporter for Australian radio station 3AW, who said on air that “certain information got home to loved ones that didn’t go down too well.”
No activities were specified — though vivid imaginations will doubtlessly prove useful. Nor was it revealed which casinos, or other legal-in-Nevada establishments, were involved. It’s not even known which members of the team starred in this unwanted, real-life sequel to “The Hangover.”
However, McClure said it was bad enough to cause “relationships to end between players and partners.”
Other sources have reported a tense team crisis meeting worthy of “Ted Lasso,” and that some team members are no longer even talking.
The Australian press squarely blames the scandal for causing the Lions, one of the best teams in the Australian Football (Footy) League, to lose their first three games this year — despite nearly winning the grand final last year against the Collingwood Magpies.
However, McClure said the team “are adamant” that the news “has had no impact” on their performance on the field this season.
Reactions to the scandal from the team’s fans has so far been mixed.
“What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!” wrote a commenter below the Daily Mail story who identified himself as Tim Barnes.
“Consequences,” countered “Namaste.”
“If you are married or have a partner and a family, then you should never be on a boys night out anywhere, certainly not half way around the world,” added “One Flag.” “That is if you have a brain and the slightest bit of compassion for another human being.
