As the dust settles on a dramatic and high-scoring World Cup, players and spectators are already focusing on the return of domestic football and UEFA club competitions.
However, traders on Polymarket are busy speculating on the identity of the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner, with World Cup outcomes historically having a huge bearing on who receives the award.
This coveted prize continues to be based on a European seasonal format, too, which runs from August to July. The 2026 World Cup was held at the end of this cycle, making it a determining factor in the minds of many voters.
The previous five weeks have seen huge trading volumes and subsequent volatility, while the market’s high liquidity will create significant buy and sell options during the autumn. But who are the best value picks at the time of writing?
We have an exclusive Polymarket bonus code (CORG), and you can earn $50 after you sign up and deposit $20. If you want to know more about trading on the Ballon d’Or, read our guide to how sports prediction markets work.
How Will the 2026 Ballon d’Or Vote Work?
The official adjudication period ends on July 31st, and the World Cup final is the last competitive match that can influence the vote.
After a brief period of reflection, France Football and UEFA will then release their formal 30-man shortlist in August. Creating this shortlist is a collaborative process, which involves esteemed L’Équipe and France Football journalists and UEFA ambassadors like Luís Figo.
Once the shortlist has been announced, ballots are issued to 100 international journalists. These individuals will then have a four-week window in which to cast their votes and submit their own top-10 picks.
The result will be announced at a gala ceremony on Monday, October 26th, 2026, with London assuming hosting duties for the first time ever. It’s on this date that the Ballon d’Or prediction market will settle, for those of you who still hold shares in a particular outcome.

Harry Kane Ballon d’Or Odds: He’s the Favorite, but Does he Offer Value?
The market experienced huge volatility during the final week of the World Cup. For example, Golden Boot winner Kylian Mbappe saw his win probability collapse from 33.5% to just 2.6% after Spain defeated France in the last four.
Conversely, young Spanish prodigy Lamine Yamal saw his implied probability value increase to 16.1% after La Roja confirmed their place in the final. He had just a 4.1% chance of winning the award prior to the semi-final clash.
Yamal is now the second favorite behind Harry Kane, while Mbappe and World Cup Golden Ball winner Rodri retain an outside chance of lifting the award this year.
“Lamine Yamal” | “Yes” at 26.8¢ | 27% Chance
Yamal has now seen his win probability increase to 27%, having initially peaked at 33.1% on July 21st. Although the 19-year-old winger underwhelmed on an individual level and contributed just one goal in eight World Cup games, he has benefited directly from Spain’s collective success in North America.
Yamal also enjoyed a superb domestic season for Barcelona, scoring 24 goals and contributing 18 assists in 45 games across all competitions. This was his most productive campaign yet, while he helped the Catalan giants to win both La Liga and Supercopa de España, too.
Interestingly, Yamal placed second in the 2025 Ballon d’Or vote, amassing 1,059 points in total.
This campaign yielded 43 goals involvements (including 25 assists) and a similar domestic trophy haul, so the addition of a breakthrough international tournament win could tip the balance in his favor this time around.
The consensus sportsbook odds afford Yamal a 33.3% chance of winning the award, so his current Polymarket “Yes” price of just 26.9¢ offers clear value and a tremendous upside. His price definitely has the potential to increase in the coming weeks, so consider buying now and selling later for a profit.

“Harry Kane” | “Yes” at 41¢ | 41% Chance
Unlike Yamal, Harry Kane exited the World Cup in the semi-finals, following England’s timid surrender against Argentina.
Although this result sent Kane’s Ballon d’Or probability tumbling from a peak of 47.1% to just 16.3%, this has climbed steadily since and settled back at 40.6%.
This is because of Kane’s strong fundamentals and domestic achievements for Bayern, while it also suggests that his backers have genuine confidence in the striker going on to win the award.
The former Spurs forward scored an incredible 61 goals in just 51 appearances for the Bavarian side, including 14 Champions League strikes as Bayern reached the last four. Kane’s total goal involvements peaked at 68, while he also contributed six World Cup goals at a rate of 0.83 per 90 minutes.
The issue here is that Kane’s price of 41¢ has minimal upside, while his anonymous performance in England’s last four defeat could also impact voters. There’s value in backing “Yes” if you’re convinced he’ll win, but it’s a low liquidity pick that offers little chance to sell for a future profit.
“Rodri” | “Yes” at 12¢ | 12% Chance
Rodri only emerged as a Ballon d’Or contender during the World Cup, after a mixed domestic campaign for Manchester City. Although the Spaniard won a cup double for the Citizens and performed superbly in the second-half of the campaign, he missed out on a fifth Premier League title to Arsenal.
His early-season performances were also underwhelming, but he has undoubtedly built some impressive momentum towards the end of the Ballon d’Or adjudication cycle.
He anchored Spain’s successful World Cup campaign throughout, controlling the midfield and completing 790 passes. This was a tournament record, with Rodri beating his own previous benchmark set during the 2022 World Cup.
It’s well known that Ballon d’Or voters place a huge emphasis on team trophies and collective success (particularly at the World Cup and European Championship). Rodri also claimed the “Golden Ball” award in North America, creating a potentially compelling case in the minds of journalists.
Among sportsbooks, Rodri’s consensus price affords him a 20% chance of winning the award, so buying “Yes” at just 12¢ on Polymarket offers incredible value. He’s certainly heavily underpriced at the time of writing, so backing the 2023 winner now creates opportunities to sell and bank a profit during August and September.

2026 Ballon d’Or Markets: Why Yamal and Rodri are the Best Value Odds
While Rodri and Yamal could yet split the votes of those who have been swayed by Spain’s World Cup triumph, these players have emerged as true value picks in the Ballon d’Or winner market.
Backing current favorite Harry Kane can also yield a profit at 41¢, but this price has minimal upside. So, you’ll most likely need Kane to win the award outright to cash in, whereas Rodri and Yamal offer future opportunities to sell higher before the market settles.
You could also consider hedging an existing position in this market. For example, if you already hold Kane, buy “Yes” on either Rodri or Yamal and aim to secure a profit regardless of how the market eventually settles.
Regardless, remember to track the market’s movements and your individual picks on a daily basis. Trader sentiment and media narratives can still impact prices significantly, even if the volatility we observed during the World Cup is unlikely to be repeated.
