BetMGM said this week a lucky online casino player in Michigan won a $1 million progressive slot jackpot on just a 40-cent bet.
BetMGM is the iGaming and online sportsbook platform of MGM Resorts International. The digital gaming operator said Thursday that an online casino gambler in Southfield, Mi., struck it rich while playing Bison Fury. The winner wished to remain anonymous.
Bison Fury is an exclusive interactive slot title developed for BetMGM by Entain, the Isle of Man-based gaming conglomerate that maintains a 50% ownership position in BetMGM’s US operations.
Bison Fury is a five-reel slot featuring an American wilderness theme. The slot provides players with more than 1,000 ways to win with the base game and bonus spins.
BetMGM’s online casino games are available in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The platform’s online sportsbook is operational in 22 states plus Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico.
Big Wins on BetMGM
Along with the $1 million online slot win in Michigan, MGM reported that a player in Pittsburgh won big, too. The company said a gambler in Pittsburgh won $525,726 playing the Borgata Online Casino.
MGM detailed that the woman’s riches came via the MGM Grand Millions Megaways slot. Another title developer exclusive for MGM’s online casino units, the slot is a five-reel game with 243 ways to win.
BetMGM congratulates the recent winners at Borgata Online and BetMGM on their big jackpots. We love making moments like this even more memorable through our new jackpot program,” a release from BetMGM read.
MGM’s online casino platforms awarded more than $138 million in slot jackpots last year, a 32% year-over-year increase. Bison Fury and MGM Grand Million Megaways accounted for more than half of the loot.
The BetMGM casino platforms, including its subsidiary units like Borgata Online, collectively offer over 2,700 interactive games.
Case Continued
In other BetMGM news, a woman in Michigan who thought she won millions playing online was told a computer glitch was the reason for her account suggesting that she had won $11 million after funding it with just $50.
Jacqueline Davis, a Detroit resident, said she was playing online roulette in 2022 on BetMGM for hours as her wins kept racking up. She eventually endured a losing streak that took her account balance down to around $3 million when she decided to cash out.
Davis went to MGM Motor City in Detroit to collect a cash advance on her winnings. She was handed $100K and told to return the next day to collect the rest. Upon her return, however, Davis was informed that the BetMGM platform had experienced a malfunction and that the rest of her presumed payout would not be delivered.
Davis was told she could keep the $100K in exchange for signing a nondisclosure agreement pledging not to discuss the error in public. She instead sued.
State courts have since sided with MGM, but the Michigan Supreme Court on May 29 accepted the case. Each side will be given 20 minutes to present their allegations and defense to the high court at a forthcoming date.
