- IBIA will monitor licensed operators for suspicious betting activity

Alberta is locking down its market integrity ahead of its July 13 launch, officially licensing the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) to monitor betting activity across the province’s new iGaming landscape.

Monitoring Suspicious Wagering
The IBIA represents more than 90 operators and 200 betting brands, helping protect sports and regulated markets through the global monitoring of suspicious wagering activity via its Global Monitoring & Alert Platform.
The organization also works to combat match-fixing and corruption through intelligence sharing, prevention initiatives, stakeholder collaboration, athlete education, and policy advocacy.
“Through our Global Monitoring & Alert Platform (MAP), IBIA will support [the process of integrity monitoring] by drawing on operator intelligence and account-level data to help assess, detect and report suspicious betting activity,” IBIA said in a statement.
It has partners at all levels of sport and will monitor the integrity of sports betting on the forthcoming FiFA World Cup, due to kick off on June 11.
28 Operators To Launch In July
IBIA will notify AGLC when activity on licensed platforms is assessed as suspicious.
The Alberta igaming market is readying for a launch with 28 major sportsbook and casino operators lining up to enter the market. FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, PointsBet Canada, Bet99, Betway are some of the brands expected to go live when the market launches.
Private operators will be competing with the government’s Play Alberta platform. AGLC is the regulator responsible for registrations and regulatory oversight. The Alberta iGaming Corporation is in a conduct and manage role, overseeing commercial agreements with operators, anti-money laundering, public complaints and financial and income reporting.
70 Alerts Reported Worldwide
According to the IBIA’s Q1 2026 Sports Betting Integrity Report, in the first quarter, 70 suspicious betting alerts across 10 sports were reported. Football (25), tennis (16) and eSports (15) accounted for the largest share. Europe generated the highest proportion of alerts (28%), followed by North America (20%) and Asia (13%).
“We are pleased to support Alberta as it opens its regulated market and to contribute to safeguarding sport and regulated sports betting in the province,” a statement from the IBIA said.
“Operators seeking an Alberta license are encouraged to contact us to discuss how IBIA can support compliance and integrity objectives in the new market,” the IBIA added.
