Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway was evacuated for several hours on Friday night after a bomb threat was phoned in to local police. The Kansas City, Kansas gaming property was scheduled to reopen at 7 a.m. (CT) Saturday.
The casino initially was evacuated at about 7:30 p.m. (CT) Friday after a man threatened to kill himself during the phone call. Guests were ordered to leave.
The gaming property was searched by local police. No bomb was found.
As a precaution, the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission also directed its officers to undertake a second search at the casino.
No Bomb Found
Neither an explosive device nor a suicidal man were located. No one suffered injuries.
We don’t believe there is a credible threat currently at the casino,” Nancy Chartrand, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department, told the Kansas City Star news outlet on Friday night.
The unidentified caller had told a 911 dispatcher that he was going to die by suicide. He also claimed there was an explosive device in a casino restroom, according to the Star.
As of Saturday, the caller had not been apprehended by local police. No word if he was identified by authorities.
Casino Resumes Some Operations
Nisqually Red Wind Casino, located in Olympia, Wash., was forced to temporarily close this week after what it called a “cybersecurity incident.”
It shuttered on Thursday and resumed some operations at noon on Friday. These include slot machines, table games, Keno, and sports betting. Only limited food and drinks were being served.
But ATMs, signups for new club accounts, check cashing, credit card and debit transactions, enrollment kiosks, and some rewards were yet to be working as of Friday, the Olympian news outlet reported.
There were no details released on the incident. Nor did the casino reveal if any personal information belonging to customers was stolen by cyber criminals.
We truly appreciate your patience as we work hard behind the scenes to get all services back up and running for you,” the casino said in a Friday post. “We hope to see you soon, and we truly hope that your luck is better than ours has been this past couple of days.”
The tribal casino has a 46,000-square foot gaming floor. It provides more than 1,670 slot machines and a high limit room. Table games include blackjack, Pai-Gow, roulette, Ultimate Texas Hold ’em, craps, and baccarat.
The casino is located on the Nisqually Reservation. It is about 26 miles south of Tacoma, Wash.
