The DraftKings Sportsbook at TPC Scottsdale has announced an opening date for the retail sports betting and hospitality venue.
Arizona lawmakers and then-Gov. Doug Ducey (R) in 2021 authorized sports betting for the state’s many gaming tribes holding Class III compacts. The statute also legalized commercial sports betting, with Arizona’s professional sports stadiums and venues being allocated the expanded gaming rights.
Arizona’s sports betting package allowed the controlling entities of the NFL Arizona Cardinals, NBA Phoenix Suns, MLB Arizona Diamondbacks, NHL Arizona Coyotes, and WNBA Phoenix Mercury to pursue sports betting licensing partnerships. Each organization is allowed to partner with a single sportsbook for retail and online wagering.
The state’s sports betting law additionally qualified golf courses that host annual PGA Tour events and racetracks hosting annual NASCAR races to pursue sportsbook concessions. Arizona is home to only one yearly stop on the PGA Tour — the Waste Management Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale.
WM to Get Rowdier
TPC Scottsdale opened in 1986 and has since been an annual stop on the PGA Tour. The track is best known for its iconic par-3 16th hole where a young 21-year-old Tiger Woods made an ace during the 1997 Phoenix Open. Less than two months later, Tiger won his first major at the Masters where he won by 12 shots — still the largest margin of victory in the tournament’s history.
Over the past two decades, the WM Phoenix Open has become the biggest party on the PGA Tour circuit. Taking “stadium golf” to the next level, the 16th is today encompassed by grandstands that allow for over 20,000 fans to root — and heckle — golfers.
The rambunctious atmosphere might be even rowdier when the WM Phoenix Open rolls into town in February for the 2024 tournament. That’s because fans on the 16th and around the course will be able to not only bet on their smartphones but also in person at the new DraftKings Sportsbook at TPC Scottsdale.
TPC Scottsdale, which is owned and operated by the PGA Tour through its Tournament Players Club (TPC) subsidiary, partnered with DraftKings for its Arizona sports betting opportunity.
Next Friday, Oct. 20, the DraftKings Sportsbook at TPC Scottsdale will officially open to the public at 10 a.m. PST. The 13,000-square-foot sportsbook includes 40 betting kiosks and a seven-window ticket counter. A video wall spanning 3,400 square feet will display all of the live sports action from around the world.
The sports wagering venue additionally offers food and drinks and features an outdoor patio bar with cabanas and firepits.
Sportsbook Location
The TPC Scottsdale DraftKings Sportsbook is conveniently located just east of the Stadium Course clubhouse across Hayden Rd. at Bell Rd.
The sports betting facility is also adjacent to where the PGA Tour parks spectator vehicles during the WM Phoenix Open. The official address of the DraftKings venue is 8129 E. Bell Rd.
Arizona Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald will place the ceremonial first bet during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday. DraftKings has the 1-4 Cardinals at +40000 to win the Super Bowl, the longest odds of the entire 32-team NFL.
