Grosvenor Casinos, owned by Rank Group, has added more than 500 employees to its workforce, including almost a dozen from its own gaming academy.
The new additions are spread out across the company’s various properties. The hirings as part of a pledge the company made last September to increase staff after a workers’ strike. The expansion also closely follows the release of the UK government’s gambling white paper, which seemed to lean favorably toward land-based gaming.
Grosvenor also recently launched a dealer training program out of its Nottingham location. Recently, 10 people were offered positions in the company after completing the four-week course.
A posting on SmartRecruiters.com about Grosvenor’s latest “trainee dealer” program, which just got underway, indicates that participants receive a £1000 (US$1,239.80) sign-on bonus (with conditions) and tips. Starting pay is £10.85 (US$13.45) an hour, slightly higher than the UK’s national minimum wage rate.
Flagship Property Gets New Boss
The company also recently announced that Peter Turpin has been appointed as the venue director of the Victoria Casino, its flagship London property. The job entails managing the day-to-day activity of the venue and “ensuring ‘The Vic’ maintains its stature” in the gaming market.
Turpin was with Caesars Entertainment for over nine years and held various management positions. Most recently, from November 2020 to July 2021, he was the chief operating officer (COO) for Caesars Entertainment EMEA. He left that job for a stint as COO for Metropolitan Gaming, where he remained for almost two years. He then transitioned to Grosvenor last month.
Turpin’s arrival is part of a larger corporate shakeup at Rank. The company is looking to improve operations on various fronts, for which it has also created a new COO position at the top.
Rank also recently announced the promotion of Jon Martin from Managing Director (MD) at Rank Interactive to the new role. Martin still oversees the “strategy and performance of Rank Interactive,” but he will also be responsible for the “cross-channel customer experience for the Mecca and Grosvenor brands.”
That opened the door for someone in the gaming industry to possibly relocate to Gibraltar. When Martin moves to the UK from Gibraltar later this year, Rank will want to fill the vacant MD role.
