Indie Biopic About Vegas Matt in Development

Hollywood is rolling out the welcome mat for one of Las Vegas’ most popular gambling influencers. According to the Hollywood Reporter (THR),  an independent feature film is in development about Stephen Matt Morrow—known to more than 1.6 million YouTube subscribers as Vegas Matt—marking the latest sign of growing entertainment-industry interest in the casino subculture of advantage play.

Advantage play is a strategy‑driven gambling niche in which players use math, timing, and game‑state awareness to tilt the odds in their favor. It’s a subculture built on pattern recognition and spotting leftover value on machines or tables—long known to casinos, but only recently entering mainstream storytelling.

The biopic, titled The Chop, is being written and produced by filmmaker, writer, and stand‑up comedian Mike Young through Red Leaf Entertainment. Production is currently targeted for 2027. No director, cast, or financing details have been announced.

According to the film’s synopsis, it traces Morrow as he connects with a group of gamblers whose calculated approach to risk begins attracting attention on casino floors across Las Vegas. As their reputation grows, Morrow is pushed further into the spotlight, confronting new pressures involving ambition, family, and fame.

Vegas Matt made headlines last month by claiming that the Venetian escorted him off its property just for winning a $400,000 slot jackpot on a Phoenix Linx machine—a story that fueled debate about how casinos should treat advantage‑play influencers.

Advantage Playground

Young—whose previous credits include 2024’s Stealing Jokes starring Michael Rapaport; 2019’s Adam, starring Aaron Paul and Jeff Daniels; and My Man is a Loser starring John Stamos—told THR that Morrow hired him to write his story.

“I was immediately drawn to the human side of his journey,” he told the outlet, which describes the film as a “rags‑to‑riches drama” tracing Morrow’s path from dedicated husband and father to advantage slot player and gambling influencer.

News of the new biopic comes directly on the heels of HBO’s announcement that it is developing a new drama series also set in the advantage play space. Starring and executive-produced by Riley Keough (Elvis’ granddaughter), Advantage Player will be adapted from Gina Fiore’s upcoming memoir about her 20-plus years as a high-stakes card-counter.
