In its ongoing multi-million-dollar blitz to attract mainstream retail users, prediction market platform Kalshi has tapped Hollywood A-lister Timothée Chalamet for its latest ad campaign—a high-stakes marketing bet that is already drawing fierce backlash from the actor’s fan base.

Perhaps no star is currently brighter than Chalamet, the four-time Academy Award nominee whose 2025 film “Marty Supreme” garnered him Best Actor and Best Picture nods.

Chalamet’s stardom has only grown due to his high-profile relationship with Kylie Jenner. Frequent sitings of the couple sitting courtside during the New York Knicks’ run to the team’s first NBA title in 53 years led to many experiencing Chalamet fatigue.

The actor’s latest gig, starring in a series of bizarre ads for Kalshi, has only exacerbated the exhaustion. Kalshi presumably spent many millions of dollars to convince Chalamet to star in the marketing ploy, and the spots are odd at best, with each having little context.

In the first video, Chalamet repeatedly says “Kalshi” while undergoing a dental operation. In the second clip, Chalamet does several squats before jumping to hit his head on his apartment’s ceiling to quite loud music above. In the third, Chalamet plays a keyboard with another man in a music store.

Each of the three clips brandishes the Kalshi logo at the end of the commercial.

Chalamet Criticism

Chalamet is fielding criticism for seemingly selling out to promote a controversial online trading platform, which some argue more closely mimics an online casino and sportsbook than a financial exchange. But ad experts say the spots have obviously worked, as they have people talking.

Kalshi’s new ads with Timothée Chalamet aren’t out to persuade — they just want to make you curious,” wrote Tim Nudd in Ad Age, an online marketing and media news outlet. “The spots take an unconventional approach. Rather than focus on product features or direct explanations, they have more offbeat narratives intended simply to spark curiosity about the brand.”

People are certainly talking, but perhaps not as Chalamet might wish. After Chalamet posted the Kalshi spots to his socials, some of his fans questioned his motives.

“Dude, take this down. You make enjoying your career hard with pointless sellouts to something that is just gross,” read one reply.

“Speak out against Trump, the war in Iran, ICE, or the genocide in Gaza? Nah. Promote a disgusting betting platform? Sure!” read another.

Colossal L,” opined another.

“Really selling out. Must have been a massive paycheck. You are rich and famous,” said another.

There are viral posts on X, Instagram, and Reddit regarding Chalamet’s Kalshi videos. The negative comments heavily outweigh the support.

Chalamet Odds
