The recent discovery of five puppies, that were stuffed into a trash bag found in a Las Vegas dumpster has led to a man’s arrest.
The puppies smelled of chlorine when they were found on November 5 at an apartment complex on Charleston Boulevard. It was later revealed that the chemicals dropped on the puppies were bleach and another cleaning fluid, police said.
On November 6, Michael Grindrod, 39, of Las Vegas was arrested and faces animal abuse charges, according to Las Vegas TV station KLAS.
Grindrod, who’s also a suspect in an auto theft case, was in custody as of Tuesday. He was being evicted from his residence and recently lost his job, the report said.
In addition to the five puppies in the dumpster, Grindrod kept three others and the dogs’ mother, called Zoey. The eight puppies and the mother are being called “Zoey and her Zoo” by the rescue organization. Each puppy will be named for an animal.
The eight puppies and their mother are expected to recover. A ninth puppy was put down after blood was found in its chest.
The Animal Foundation can place unwanted dogs and other pets in the Las Vegas area, as well as provide food for animals. The foundation’s hotline is 702-955-5932.
