An intoxicated driver recently drove his truck through the security fence at North Las Vegas Airport, police said.
On October 15, Jesse Romero, 35, was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, resisting a public officer, and having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, according to Las Vegas TV station KLAS.
North Las Vegas police found Romero sleeping and “slumped over the wheel” on the truck’s front seat. The motor was running, and his dog was sitting nearby.
He had slurred speech, and I detected a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his [person],” a police officer revealed in an arrest report.
Inside the truck were an open container of alcohol and a pill container. The pill container had some white substance inside, believed to be cocaine, police said. There was a snuff spoon, too.
There was no word on the cost of repairs to the fence and a damaged cart in the incident.
On October 16, Romero appeared in North Las Vegas Municipal Court. He was released by a judge and told not to consume drugs or alcohol, according to KLAS. Romero is next scheduled to appear in court on November 30.
USPS Offers Reward
A U.S. Postal Service letter carrier was robbed on Monday. The armed holdup took place on North Yellow Harbor Street in Las Vegas.
During the robbery, two suspects approached the letter carrier. At least one displayed a firearm before they ordered the postal employee to hand over a master key. The two men took the key and drove away in a car.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is handling the robbery investigation.
When they approached the carrier, they knew exactly what they wanted,” said Trevor Hudson, U.S. postal inspector, as quoted by Las Vegas TV station KTNV.
The Postal Service this week offered a $150K reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. If convicted, the defendants could face up to 25 years in federal prison.
Hudson is encouraging people to be on the watch for checks being cashed or credit cards being used that weren’t authorized.
Boulder Highway Murder
A person was apparently murdered Thursday night while on Las Vegas’s Boulder Highway.
The killing was reported to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) at about 11:45 p.m. on Thursday. It took place south of the intersection with Tropicana Avenue.
Boulder Highway was closed between Tropicana and Missouri avenues for several hours on Friday. That allowed detectives to search for physical evidence and possible witnesses.
The Clark County coroner’s office is expected to perform an autopsy to identify the victim, as well as determine the cause and manner of death.
Police didn’t provide details additional details on the case.
