A woman died in a Las Vegas Strip hotel room early Monday after she was shot. The shooter remains at large.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officers discovered the victim shortly before 2 a.m. She was unconscious when police arrived and died a short time later. Police suspect the shooting was a homicide.

Officers initially arrived at the hotel to do a welfare check on the woman, according to Las Vegas TV station KLAS.

In initial reports, police didn’t identify the hotel. But KLAS reported the MGM Grand Las Vegas located at 3799 South Las Vegas Blvd.

Police are likely to review surveillance video at the hotel, search for evidence, and speak to possible witnesses. The Clark County coroner’s office will likely perform an autopsy on the victim to confirm the manner and cause of death.

No suspect or suspects were apprehended as of midday Monday.

Fatal Stabbing Near Strip

A man was arrested following the death of a person on Friday near the Las Vegas Strip.

The fatal stabbing took place at about 10:45 a.m. at the corner of Palos Verdes Street and Twain Avenue, located east of the Strip. The victim was taken to a local hospital for emergency treatment but died soon after arriving.

Hassan Howard, 20, was arrested on an open murder charge in connection with the death, Las Vegas TV station KLAS reported.

Police said the victim and Howard got into an argument before the stabbing took place. There’s been no word on what led to the dispute.

Howard was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on Friday. He remained in custody on Monday and is scheduled to appear in local court on Tuesday.

The victim’s body will likely undergo an autopsy. The Clark County coroner’s office will likely identify the victim, as well as confirm the cause and manner of death.

Ponzi Scheme Leads to $3M in Thefts

A man was arrested last Tuesday on 17 charges after he allegedly stole more than $3M from investors in a Las Vegas-based Ponzi scheme. He used the money to fund his gambling and for personal expenses, police said.

The victims thought they were investing in a legal operation to sell luxury watches, according to Las Vegas TV station KLAS. The plot was reported to local police in September.

Among the charges defendant Nicholas Trimble now faces are several counts of theft of $100K or more.

One of the victims who invested in the scam lost $800K and some watches, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD). Another victim lost about $1.5M.

It appears the money was lost on Trimble’s gambling habit or was spent on personal expenses. Police revealed Trimble withdrew about $50K at the Wynn Las Vegas and $400K at Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa from accounts.

A company set up by Trimble, Colorado-based Cherry Creek Capital LLC, went into default in 2018 and in 2022, according to KLAS.
