A man is in custody after getting arrested last week for the alleged robbery and pistol-whipping of a victim at Las Vegas’ Meadows Mall.
Rendell Bright, 23, was charged with robbery, conspiracy, battery, battery resulting in substantial bodily harm, as well as driver disobeying peace officer endangering other persons or property
He remains in the Clark County Detention Center as of Thursday. His bail was set at $50K, and he will next appear in court on April 23.
On March 10, Bright and three other men allegedly took part in the pistol-whipping of another man with a handgun at the mall. They also stole some $200, a cell phone, and keys from the victim, according to police.
The victim lost consciousness, police said. Among his injuries were a swollen forehead, a dislocated shoulder, and some memory loss.
After the holdup, the suspects fled from the mall in a gray Cadillac.
The two-story Meadows Mall is located on Meadows Lane in Las Vegas. Nearby is the Las Vegas Strip and the Strat Hotel, Casino & Tower.
Bright Returns to Mall
On March 11, Bright returned to the same mall, police said. He picked up a hat at a store there. He reportedly wrote his name on a payment slip, which led police to conclude he was one of the suspects in the violent holdup.
On March 12, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officers spotted Bright driving the suspected get-away vehicle in the mall robbery. Rather than stop when police try to pull the car over, Bright allegedly sped away.
The vehicle was later found abandoned in an apartment complex parking lot. Bright’s wallet was in the car.
Bright Admits Involvement
Police took Bright into custody last Thursday at which time he admitted he was at the mall on the day of the robbery.
One of his friends got into a fight with the victim. The other three men joined the fight, he added to police. He was unaware anyone stole cash or personal items from the victim.
But Bright did say he fled from police officers, Las Vegas TV station KLAS reported.
Police didn’t say if they know the names of the other three suspects and it’s unclear if they’ve been arrested or if their arrests are likely.
The victim wasn’t identified and police didn’t provide an update on his medical condition.
