NBABet Stream, which provides streaming broadcasts of pro basketball games complete with exclusive gambling-related content, debuted this week. Some say it could become a model for other sports leagues.
It kicked off with the Oklahoma City Thunder-Denver Nuggets game on Monday, Aug. 3. It continues Thursday with the New Orleans Pelicans vs. Sacramento Kings matchup. It will air additional select games in the coming days.
During streamed broadcasts, NBABet Stream will carry point spreads, odds, and wagering analysis, according to Awful Announcing, a sports fan website. It will also offer live analysis for NBABet Stream provided by commentators from the Action Network, Bleacher Report, and Yahoo.
BetMGM Sportsbook is also partnering with the NBA to provide odds on NBABet Stream. BetMGM is a joint venture among MGM Resorts International, ROAR Digital, and GVC Holdings.
The sportsbook is now licensed in seven states — Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, Nevada, and West Virginia. It plans to be in 11 states by the end of this year.
New Way to View
The streaming services hopes that it will not just bring more content to sports fans, but also pump in some excitement and increase engagement, as the coronavirus restrictions have lessened the number of sports events this year.
NBABet Stream is available on NBA.com, NBA League Pass, and NBA TV. It comes as the current season is being played without spectators present in arenas because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Awful Announcing called the offering “ahead of the curve.” The NBA is the first sports league to offer this service.
But other pro sports leagues could soon offer similar betting-related streams, according to ESPN. Especially as sports betting has the power to expand viewership.
The new streaming service comes as earlier this week, William Hill opened a temporary sportsbook in the box office at Capital One Arena, home to the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals. It is the first sportsbook in a US arena. This fall, William Hill Sportsbook is scheduled to open a permanent sportsbook in the arena.
BetMGM, PGA Tour Partner
BetMGM also recently partnered with the PGA Tour. The Tour and the sportsbook company reached a multiyear content and marketing collaboration.
It designates BetMGM as an “Official Betting Operator of the PGA Tour.” Under the agreement, BetMGM will have rights in the US to use PGA Tour branding.
It can also advertise within Tour media outlets and partner broadcasts. BetMGM additionally can distribute video streams of professional golf through its digital platform.
