Two suspects robbed the C.O.D. Casino in Minden, Nev., early on Friday, police said. A short time later, one of the men allegedly shot at a deputy.
The deputy was not injured, according to Nevada TV station KRNV. But an undetermined number of bullets struck a patrol vehicle.
The two men later were apprehended and charged.
The two bandits initially robbed the gaming property at about 4:57 a.m. Police did not disclose how much money was taken.
But authorities said the suspects were armed at the time of the theft.
Casino employees quickly contacted local authorities.
A responding Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy then spotted the suspect’s car.
One of the suspects shot at the deputy. He was not injured.
Bullet Strikes Deputy’s Vehicle
But the bullet struck the vehicle, authorities said.
The two suspects quickly ran away. Each was apprehended soon afterward on County Road in Minden.
Andrew Toomey, 43, of Carson City, Nev., was found in the yard at a nearby residence. Chase Henderson, 33, of Minden, was found at a different residence. He, too, was in a yard.
They each were apprehended at about 6:30 a.m. They then were booked at the Douglas County Jail in Minden, where they were being held later on Friday.
Each was charged with robbery with a deadly weapon. Henderson was also charged with attempted homicide of an officer and battery on an officer.
Their cases will be turned over to local prosecutors. If convicted on the charges, each suspect could face many years in prison.
Casino employees gave statements to the police about the robbery.
Prior Convictions
A background check on Henderson revealed he previously served time in a Nevada prison for robbery, according to The Record Courier newspaper.
Henderson was convicted and sentenced in 2008 to 30-120 months in prison for a Nevada robbery, according to the news report. He was granted parole in 2013.
Toomey also spent time in prison, the Record Courier reported. Details on his sentence were not immediately available.
While police investigated Friday’s incident, members of the Douglas County SWAT team also searched for the suspects.
In one area, local residents were asked to shelter in place while authorities searched for the duo.
Other law enforcement agencies helped to investigate the crimes. They included deputies from Carson City. The Nevada State Police also took part in the investigation.
