Tom Brady has won six Super Bowls, been named Super Bowl MVP four times, NFL MVP three times, and has been a Pro Bowl selection 14 times. However, the future Hall of Famerr isn’t done yet.
The New England Patriots and Brady have agreed to extend his contract by two years through the 2021 season. However, the team has the right to adjust the contract after each of the years, including annulling the agreement and parting ways.
“Football’s a tough business, it’s a production business,” Brady told reporters today. “I’m ready to go this year, and that’s really what matters. That’s where my focus is.”
Las Vegas oddsmakers say the defending champs are the team to beat despite Brady being another year older. The Westgate SuperBook has the Patriots at +600, meaning a $100 bet would net $600. Shared with the Kansas City Chiefs, the line is the shortest in the 32-team league.
Brady turned 42 on Saturday. No quarterback aged 42 or older has ever started all 16 games in an NFL regular season.
“Twentieth year with the same team, 42 years old. Pretty much unchartered territory for everybody. I’m going to go out there and do the best I can this year and see what happens,” Brady concluded.
Dynasty Continues
Brady sticking around means New England will remain an odds-on favorite for the Super Bowl this year. Considered the GOAT (“Greatest Of All Time”) among many football fans and analysts, Brady’s legendary career is especially remarkable considering he was a lightly considered prospect coming out of college nearly 20 years ago.
I appreciate this team and the opportunity it gave me in 2000,” Brady said last week. “I play for a great coach in Coach [Bill] Belichick, and [offensive coordinator] Josh [McDaniels] and I have a great working relationship. I love Mr. [Robert] Kraft and his family. We’ve had just incredible success. Hopefully we can keep it going.”
Brady and company have appeared in the last three Super Bowls, winning two. Oddsmakers feel his game won’t go downhill as Brady’s age would suggest being over the hill for most pro football players.
The SuperBook’s odds on who will be the Associated Press NFL MVP has Brady at +1800. A $100 bet and Brady winning his fourth regular season MVP award would net gamblers $1,800.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is the heavy odds-on favorite at +400. Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is next at +1000, and then it’s Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck and Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz at +1200. New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is the only other player with shorter MVP odds than Brady at +1600.
Other Pats Bets
No sport generates more handle for US oddsmakers than football, and sportsbooks have an abundance of betting opportunities to increase overall activity. As for the Patriots, FanDuel has them heavily favored to win the AFC East (-550). To make a $100 on those odds, you’ll need to risk $550.
MGM also has New England the frontrunner to win the AFC and advance to the Super Bowl (+300). The Chiefs trail closely at +400.
Brady and the Pats kick off the regular season at the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 8. New England is a six-point favorite.
