Rolls-Royce Unveils Fully Electric ‘Spectre’ at Wynn Palace on Macau Cotai Strip

Rolls-Royce unveiled the luxury auto manufacturer’s newest model this week at the Wynn Palace casino resort on the Macau Cotai Strip.

Rolls-Royce, the British luxury automobile maker, is a fully owned subsidiary of BMW. The company produces some of the most expensive automobiles in the world. The latest hood donning the “Spirit of the Ecstasy” bonnet mascot is called the “Spectre.”

Rolls’ first all-electric vehicle (EV) rides on the same platform as the Phantom and Cullinan but is powered by two electric synchronous motors, producing a whopping 577 horsepower. The two-door coupe has a range of about 260 miles on a full charge.

Rolls-Royce held a gala at the Macau casino owned and operated by Wynn China, a subsidiary of Las Vegas-based Wynn Resorts on Sunday, November 19. More than 200 guests, many of whom already own a Rolls, were invited to the lavish ceremony held outside on the casino’s Wynn Palace Lawn.

A statement from Wynn said the company remains committed “to furthering Macau’s status as a World Center of Tourism and Leisure,” and the hosting of the Rolls-Royce Spectre reveal is part of its mission to grow international visitation to the Chinese enclave.

“This event is just one recent example of how Wynn is collaborating with globally renowned luxury car manufacturer Rolls-Royce to stage more international events in Macau,” the company said.

Spectre Spectacle

Rolls-Royce’s latest model comes with a base price of $422,750. Car and Driver, however, reports the cost will be north of a half-million dollars for most buyers, as the vehicle has “a seemingly endless amount of customization.”

Following the vehicle’s gala on Sunday, the Rolls-Royce Spectre was moved to the casino’s North Atrium Lobby where it will remain on display until December 1.

The exhibition is designed to give visitors from around the world a chance to get up close and experience the excitement of seeing the world’s first ultra-luxury electric super coupe,” the Wynn China release stated.

Each and every Rolls-Royce automobile is hand-built at the company’s Goodwood manufacturing plant in West Sussex.

Macau’s Infamous Rolls-Royces

Many of Macau’s most sought-after guests — VIP players — fancy the finer things in life. One of two Special Administrative Regions in China, Macau has catered to the mainland’s elite since Portugal handed the city back to the People’s Republic in 1999.

At the height of Macau’s gaming industry in 2013 when the six casino operators won a record $45 billion, flamboyant businessman Stephen Hung announced his plans to build a $1.6 billion resort. Called The 13, the resort was to target the wealthiest high rollers in town.

Before The 13 opened, Hung purchased 20 Rolls-Royce Phantom vehicles for $20 million. Rolls said it was the largest single order in its history.

The vehicles were to serve as shuttles for the casino’s VIP guests. The 13 was a financial disaster, however, and never opened as a high-end casino. The project eventually went belly up and most of the Phantom vehicles were sold at a deep discount in 2019.
