An alleged robber gave himself up on Monday morning following a holdup at Reno, Nev.’s Silver Legacy Resort Casino.
The unnamed bandit initially refused to surrender to police officers, but about four hours later, he gave himself over to cops, according to Reno TV station KRNV.
The holdup reportedly took place at about 4 a.m. on Monday. The two victims alerted local police.
Officers spoke to the couple and soon identified the suspect before police proceeded to the 30th floor of the hotel. The robber was in a guest room and was armed with a gun, authorities added. It was unclear if it was loaded with ammunition.
Guests in the rooms close to the suspect’s were told to leave for their own safety, police said.
SWAT Team Went to Hotel
The Reno Police Department’s SWAT team responded to the hotel, as did other officers, and specially trained officers spent hours negotiating with the suspect before he agreed to surrender.
At about 8:30 a.m., the suspect eventually opened the door and left the hotel room. No shots were fired and no one was injured. Following his arrest, the suspect’s case was turned over to local prosecutors.
Yelling, Screaming
The incident was overwhelming for several hotel guests.
“About quarter to 3 a.m., my girlfriend and I heard yelling and screaming in the hallway. There was a guy trying to get into a room across from us, then there was yelling and screaming about ‘I robbed him’, then a quarter after 3 a.m., we woke up to more banging, someone saying ‘let me in, let me in,’” hotel guest Kevan Shaw was quoted by Nevada TV station KOLO.
Shaw and his girlfriend were told to leave their room at about 5:45 a.m., according to the report.
Guests were allowed to return to their hotel rooms after the arrest.
The suspect wasn’t immediately identified by local police and no explanation was given as to why he chose to barricade himself in the room. It’s also unclear why he chose to rob the initial victims.
Police said no other guests at the hotel were at risk and it was an isolated incident.
The Silver Legacy at The Row has close to 1,700 rooms. The Caesar Entertainment property is located on North Virginia Street.
