Instead of letting its two pools and deck sit empty in the cold, Tao Beach Dayclub is converting into a temporary 70’s-themed roller disco this winter. And it’s getting some superstar help from Usher, the crosstown Strip headliner who keeps the pastime alive by roller-skating during all of his concerts.
Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace, which will operate from November 17 through February 2, will be a partnership between Venetian and Tao Group Hospitality with Flipper’s World. That’s the company formed by Usher and his partners, Liberty Ross and Kevin Wall, in 2021 to revive the famous LA roller disco of the same name from the 1970s.
Usher, who wrapped his Park MGM residency in December 2023 and will soon return for stops on his sold-out “Usher: Past Present, Future,” tour is expected to usher in his Vegas rink by attending its grand opening.
Skating sessions at Flipper’s at Tao Beach will run from noon to 8 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays, beginning at $20 per hour or $75 for a day pass.
The rink will be open to all ages, with special programming planned for those 21 and up. VIP experiences cabanas, daybeds, and lounges are also available starting at a minimum spend of $100.
Reservations are available here.
Back Flipper
The original Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace was operated from 1979-81 by Ian “Flipper” Ross at the corner of Santa Monica and La Cienega boulevards in West Hollywood, where a CVS Pharmacy stands today. It became legendary for its popularity with celebrities including Cher and Elton John, for hosting an early Prince concert, and for appearing in a Season 4 episode of “Charlie’s Angels.”
Since reviving the name in 2021, Usher and his partners have opened a flagship Flipper’s in London, with pop-ups appearing in New York’s Rockefeller Center and at Usher’s Super Bowl afterparty last year.
