National Football League (NFL) odds for week three of the regular season present a little something for every type of sports bettor.
For the first time since 1987, there are two games that have spreads of 20 points or more. And when that last occurred 32 years ago, the NFL was enduring a 24-day player strike that cancelled week three of that season.
Back to 2019, Caesars sportsbooks in Las Vegas currently have the home team New England Patriots (2-0) spotting the visiting and winless New York Jets 22.5 points. The 2-0 Dallas Cowboys are 21.5-point favorites against the 0-2 visiting Miami Dolphins.
It’s been a chaotic seven days in the NFL. Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is done for the year after suffering an elbow injury, and New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is out for at least six weeks with a thumb injury.
Roethlisberger’s exit sent the Steelers’ Super Bowl odds crashing from 30/1 prior to week two to 200/1. Brees’ injury lengthened the Saints’ Vince Lombardi Trophy chances from 10/1 to 20/1.
Longshots Long Enough?
Bettors who like being afforded points can grab many by betting on the Dolphins and Jets. But it might not be the smartest of wagers.
New York is without QB starter Sam Darnold because the player contracted mononucleosis, and the Jets lost backup quarterback Trevor Siemian against Cleveland for the remainder of the season after he was injured by Browns DE Myles Garrett on a roughing the passer penalty.
Cleveland’s win over the Jets made a $424 eight-team parlay a $74,000 winner at CG Technology in Nevada. The fortunate bettor took the Rams (-2) and under 52, Broncos (+2.5) and under 41, Falcons (+1) and under 52.5, under 53 on the Raiders-Chiefs, and Browns (+6.5).
The Jets move ahead resting their chances on third-stringer Luke Falk, who will make his first career start against perhaps the best quarterback to ever play the game, Tom Brady.
The Dolphins are yet another star short after dealing DB Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Steelers. Miami is making little secret about giving up on this season and trying to build for the future.
This might be the worst football team in the NFL I’ve ever seen,” ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith said Monday. “They are atrocious.”
The Fins have now traded LT Laremy Tunsil, WR Kenny Stills, and Fitzpatrick. They have three first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft, and two in the second, as well as two in the first and second rounds of the 2021 draft.
The Dolphins are now at 20000/1 to win Super Bowl 54 at the Westgate SuperBook. A $5 bet and the most unlikely scenario coming true would net $100,000.
Week 3 NFL Odds
Not all of this week’s games will be blowouts. For the first time this NFL season, three games presently have a point spread less than a field goal.
The Los Angeles Rams are spotting 2.5 to the Browns in Cleveland, the Colts two points to the Atlanta Falcons playing in Indianapolis, and the Tennessee Titans giving the Jaguars two in Jacksonville.
The New York Giants underdog status increased from six to 6.5 against the Buccaneers in Tampa following their decision to bench veteran quarterback Eli Manning in favor of rookie Daniel Jones.
