Footage of an airplane meltdown captured the fleeting attention of the entire internet on Thursday. It shows Las Vegas police officers arresting an unidentified woman in the midst of an obvious mental-health crisis while her Spirit Airlines flight awaited takeoff on the tarmac at Harry Reid International.
More than 2 million people have seen the footage since it was posted on March 23 by TikToker realkingjon.
“Let this go!” the woman shouts in the footage. “Can I do that with freedom? All I care about is freedom!”
“You’re under arrest,” one of the officers explains.
“I can walk out on my own!” the woman replied. “Why are you doing that? Why are you acting like I’m a rascal?”
After yelling about pain caused by her handcuffs, the woman is shown lunging toward the officers, who push her back down into her seat.
“I can’t breathe!” the woman demanded, apparently attempting to compare her situation to the murder of George Floyd. “Why are you touching my leg?”
Deplane! Deplane!
According to the TikToker, all passengers were forced to deplane due to the episode.
Sympathy in the TikTok video’s comment section was split between the woman, her fellow passengers, and the officers.
“This is really sad,” wrote one user. “I hope she found some help and it comforted her.”
“That’s a evil spirit in her possession happening right in front of everyone,” another TikToker added.
“How did she get past airport security??” another wondered.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department didn’t respond to Casino.org’s request for a comment and have made no mention of the incident on their Twitter feed. However, the New York Post picked up the story on Thursday, which should force a response.
The Post, in its inimitable style, likened the woman’s behavior to “Jim Carrey’s contortionist performance in ‘The Mask.’”
