I've played poker since the early 80's, and online since 2003.

My vote for the GOAT is Stu Ungar (RIP), a 3X Winner of the WSOP Main Event. He finished 1st in 10 of the 30 No-Limit Texas Hold em events he EVER entered, making Him a candidate, without question. Here's a bit from from his bio on a poll where he holds the top spot, all time. Despite having limited experience, Ungar took to poker with lightning speed. Doyle Brunson later claimed that he’d never seen anyone pick up the game as quickly as Stuey. In 1980, he became the youngest ever winner of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event and was christened with a new nickname, “The Kid”, a reference to his tender age and scrawny frame. He successfully defended his title the following year
Ungar had an unrivalled record in the world’s biggest poker tournaments. He became the only player to win the WSOP and Superbowl of Poker Main Events three times each. His success spanned several variations of the game, including holdem, draw and stud. By the end of his career, it was estimated that he had won over $30m from poker.

Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Eric Seidel, Johnny Chan, Gus Hansen, Scotty Nguyen, Chris Ferguson, as well as Stu Ungar are professionals I admire and have learned and gained skills from by watching them play in tournaments. Phil Hellmuth, Jr. will provide a few laughs or wtf moments every time he's in a game. I've never read a poker book. This is my thought on 8/24/21... We are each Our own Gods of our individual Being or Self, given that we have free will and the ability to think, communicate, reason, love, nurture, & compromise deliberately and with intelligent forethought and compassion.
