My Dad made me buy chips using the money earned from doing my chores. (25 cents a week) ... more when I would do my brother's and sisters' chores.

We'd sit at the kitchen table and the light could be lowered on a pulley so that a shadow would cast just beneath your eyes.

He would light a cigar and parse out the chips.

We played Dealer's call; usually 5 card stud - nothing wild.

Then he would proceed to bluff me whenever he didn't have the nuts....

It turned out that teaching me the hard way was such a blessing~
