Las Vegas Visitor Rips Megabucks a New One, Wins $12.5 Million
Lady Luck has once again straddled the metaphorical lap of a slot machine player, this time at MGM Grand. A Megabucks slot machine paid out a jackpot of $12.5 million on Nov. 4, 2013.
We don’t know anything else about the player who hit the jackpot, other than the fact they now have a lot more friends calling and dropping by “just to touch base.”
The exact amount of the jackpot at MGM Grand (the big, green one) was $12,463,147.70. That sound you hear is the IRS popping open a bottle of Cristal.
Megabucks slots are what’s called “progressive” machines. That means similar machines across a number of Las Vegas casinos are linked, with a constantly-growing common jackpot. When the big jackpot hits, it’s reset to a mere $10 million.
Megabucks progressive slot machines have paid out jackpots bigger than a million bucks 24 times in 2013 alone.
Even more importantly, the last time we played, we won $50. Tax free, though, so it’s almost as good as $12.5 million. And that’s the story we’re sticking to.
