Three New Things at Golden Nugget Since Your Last Visit
The Golden Nugget, downtown, is a true classic. This beloved Las Vegas fixture continues to give us surprises, and here are three new things since your last Las Vegas visit.
1. Poolside Craps
Golden Nugget has the most impressive pool in downtown Las Vegas, including a water slide that zips riders through a shark tank. Now, when you’re done gambling with your life in the shark tank pool, you can also gamble at a new craps table, poolside.
The craps table at the Golden Nugget pool is a half-size model, so there are some special rules. For example, both of the dice have to hit the far wall or the roll is invalid. Also, if you’re shooting, your arm can’t extend past the “prop bets” box, halfway down the table. (These rules are meant to address the issue of cheating through dice manipulation, because the table is so short.)
The craps table is “Strip odds,” which means slightly worse than most downtown craps games. For example, 12 on the field pays double rather than triple. Not uncommon these days, but not optimal.
During our visit, the table minimum was $5, with 3x, 4x and 5x odds.
We’re looking forward to doing some damage at this outdoor craps table soon!
2. Carson Street Cafe Closes
This one took us by surprise! The Golden Nugget’s Carson Street Cafe has closed. This cafe has been around forever, and holds a lot of memories.
Our snooping around resulted in hearing that a new Mexican restaurant is slated for this space, as well as a coffee shop.
3. Stage Bar
A new outdoor bar, facing Fremont Street, has been in the works for quite some time at Golden Nugget. Originally, it was to be called One Bar, but that name was already being used by the Golden Gate’s outside bar. It looks like Golden Nugget has chosen another option: Stage Bar.
This new bar isn’t particularly close to the stage at Fremont Street, but we get what they’re going for. We look forward to taking a sip when it opens.
Now, for a little Golden Nugget puzzler. The Golden Nugget’s indoor-outdoor bar is called Bar 46. Why?
The Golden Nugget is one of our favorite places to play and stay in downtown Las Vegas, and we can’t wait to see what else they have in store.
