Fabrizio Romano exclusive: PSG ‘not in the race’ for Mo Salah

The transfer saga of 2024 continues, as Mo Salah and Liverpool remain without an agreement for the Egyptian to remain at Anfield beyond this season.

Despite player of the year credentials and a reputation as one of the best to wear the famous red shirt, Salah, as things stand, will be without a club in summer 2025.

Leading transfer guru Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the latest regarding 32-year-old, as press speculation mounts on the latest runners and riders for his highly-coveted signature.

Speaking on December 3 exclusively to casino.org, Romano commented:

“Mo Salah’s contract situation remains open. Liverpool and Salah have been in discussions for months but there’s still no formal proposal and no agreement so far.

“Salah was probably expecting a different timing to reach an agreement, maybe earlier in the season; but the situation remains open, with Liverpool sources maintaining they want to discuss again and try to find a way with Salah.

“At the moment, financially there’s still no agreement on salary, bonuses and all details of the new contract. The length of the contract is not seen as a problem or issue; but the salary is a key topic as Salah already saw a big proposal from Saudi League rejected by Liverpool in summer 2022.”

Despite Liverpool’s strong favouritism to claim the Premier League and their impressive early form in the Champions League, the likes of Trent Alexander Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are also yet to confirm their future at the club. Midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has also been linked with a move in recent weeks.

With no potential replacements linked as things stand, the task to replace Salah wouldn’t be an enviable one for Arne Slot, and would represent his toughest test so far after a breathless start to his Premier League management career.

Could Salah remain in Europe; or does a move to the Middle East still look to be the likely calling point for the star attacker? Romano believes that, contrary to recent press speculation, there has been no contact from Ligue 1 giants PSG.

He continued: “The salary is still not in place and this is the main problem; also, this is why we see many rumours including Paris Saint-Germain, but there’s no proposal or even talks taking place right now between Salah and PSG; contrary to recent reports in L’Equipe.

“In case the negotiations with Liverpool collapse, several clubs could be interested from Saudi Pro League but also from Europe, so the situation is absolutely open. but Salah spoke about that in public as he expected this topic to be sorted earlier.”
