After recently testing BetMGM, the poker experience stood out, with solid, active cash games and tournaments thanks to shared player pools across multiple states (NJ, MI, PA). I found everything from Sit and Go tournaments from $0.10 to cash games with blinds of $25/$50 for any high rollers. Editor's choice - amazing gambling options at Golden Nugget

Chris Jonat circle (1).jpg
Chris Jonat - this week's tester

"I decided to put Golden Nugget through its paces to see how its gambling options hold up as one of the most established names in the US market."

golden nugget casino gambling playtest
"After trying Golden Nugget Casino myself, it quickly stood out as a well-rounded gambling platform. With 700+ games, including new slots, jackpots, and live dealer titles, I never felt short on options. I also liked having a built-in sportsbook - it made switching between casino gambling and sports betting seamless without needing another account. The Dynasty Rewards program was a nice bonus too, especially since I recognized it from DraftKings, adding extra value the more you gamble. When I signed up, I claimed the 500 free spins over 10 days, and the Flex Spins feature really impressed me. Being able to choose from 100+ games felt far more flexible than sites like PlayStar or Fanatics, where options are more limited."

The free Coins and Sweeps Coins give you instant access to real-style gambling without any deposit. As I kept playing, I was also able to claim daily free gambling rewards, and there's even a VIP scheme that lets you unlock special perks, similar to the added value at RealPrize.

Stake - my pick for crypto gambling

I just got done testing Stake, and I’d have to put it among the top gambling sites in the US. The biggest standout is crypto, with 20+ coins supported, which you won’t find on sweepstakes gambling platforms like Crown Coins or McLuck. If you’re holding crypto and want to use it for gambling across 3,000+ games, this is one of the best options available.

Editor’s choice: Gambling gets creative at Dorados

Chris Jonat circle (1).jpg
Chris Jonat - this week's tester

“Most recently, I tested the Dorados sweepstakes casino to explore its gambling features, bonus system, and unique mini-games. Read on to find out whether it’s actually worth signing up for.”

testing dorados casino
"The gambling options at Dorados are honestly better than most sweepstakes casinos I’ve tested during my time at Casino.org. During my hands-on testing, I found over 2,850 games available, including 2,750+ slots, putting it right up there with major sweeps sites like Stake and BigPirate when it comes to sheer variety.I spent most of my time exploring the newer releases and live casino games, with titles from Nolimit City and Hacksaw Gaming standing out the most. Games like Punk Rocker 3 and Le Bandit were highlights for me, and there’s also a strong mix of jackpots, exclusive titles, and more than 100 live dealer games powered by Evolution and other providers. What really made Dorados stand out, though, was how interactive the whole experience felt. Instead of just offering standard loyalty rewards, the site integrates progression into gameplay through its Dorados mini-game. I used Elixir Tokens to spin a slot-style feature, unlock coins, and move through the adventure map to claim extra rewards and free GC and SC along the way.Beyond the games themselves, I also found solid value in the coin packages, daily challenges, VIP rewards, and monthly races with up to 2,500 SC available. Another thing I liked was the low entry point for purchases - I could buy packages with free Gems (SC) from just $1.99, which is cheaper than sites like McLuck where comparable packages start at $4.99."

A note on sweepstakes casinos

"Sweepstakes casinos offer a very game-focused experience because you're mainly playing to earn more GC, which allows you to play more. Most bonuses on these sites will give you more Gold Coins (or the brands' equivalents) to play with. There's the added bonus of redeeming any Sweepstakes prizes you may win for cash, but first and foremost I'd go in with a mind to having fun on the games."

How our experts find the best US online gambling websites

Casino.org has been at the forefront of gambling online since 1995. With appearances on Fox News, ESPN, and the Los Angeles Times, we're well known for our industry commentary. Our strict 25 criteria review process is trusted by thousands of Americans looking for their next (or first) gambling site. From the range of betting markets to rapid cashier transactions, find out what it takes to be the number one gambling site.

  • Site security, authority, and reputation

Any gambling site we recommend is legal and licensed by state-level online betting and gaming authorities. A brand like BetMGM holds multiple licenses from different state bodies for its online sports betting operation. These include the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. BetMGM has a strong reputation with US players and won Digital Operator of the Year at the Global Gaming Awards 2023.

💡 Expert insight: "For a casino gambling site, being eCOGRA certified attests to the fairness of the games and that the site follows gambling regulations. Casinos don't have to use eCOGRA, but seeing the badge on site earns more points in our ratings."

eCograNew Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.jpgPennsylvania Gaming Control Board.pngMichigan gaming control board.png
  • Promos, rewards, and bonus offers

You can expect welcome bonuses and regular player promos to reward you for gambling online. BetMGM offers one of the largest welcome bonuses in the US. There's a deposit match of up to $2,500, $75 in tournament tickets for poker, or a no deposit bonus of $25-$50 (state-dependent) for casino players. This is double the offers at PlayStar and BetRivers. BetRivers scores higher for wagering requirements, though. Its 1x playthrough rate makes withdrawing wins from the $500 offer more achievable.

💡 Expert insight: "When choosing where to gamble online, look out for the promos that offer the most frequent value to your betting style. BetMGM has 19 regular promotions across sports, casino, and poker. These include bonus bets, daily bonuses, and double reward points. For comparison, DraftKings has seven regular offers."

  • Range of markets, tournaments, and games

The highest-scoring gambling sites stand out for the breadth of choice they offer players. DraftKings Sportsbook covers a wide spread of markets - from major leagues like the NFL and NBA through to niche options like Rodeo - with hundreds of bet types layered on top. On the casino side, Hard Rock Bet casino leads the field with around 5,000 titles, more than three times the 1,500 you'll find at DraftKings Casino.

💡 Expert insight:"One of the most accessible options is BetMGM Poker, with 24/7 tournaments including large pot 'hot tables' you can join from $0.10 and mid stakes games from $0.01."

  • Mobile betting and apps in your state

Players expect the best online betting sites to have high quality gambling apps in their state. We scored BetMGM's app highly for the personalization it offers poker players. The 'my tournies' tool lets you favorite events in your account. Filtering also allows you to focus your screen display on your key games and preferred stakes, game speed, and table format.

💡 Expert insight: "Not all gambling websites offer dedicated apps. While we will deduct review points because of this, a betting site still scores well if it's fully responsive to screen size and makes it easy to filter, navigate, and bet on mobile."

iPhone apple logo iPad mobile blueAndroid casinos
  • Swift betting at the cashier

Speed matters in sports betting, where rapid settlement keeps your bankroll moving on game day. BetRivers leads the way here, processing most wagers within minutes of the final whistle - just one of the strengths we cover in our BetRivers casino review. BetMGM, meanwhile, takes the lead in casino withdrawals, offering 11 payment options, including Apple Pay, PayPal, and Mastercard. That edges out BetRivers' six methods, though both sites cover the major payment types players most often use.

💡 Expert insight: "BetMGM's fastest withdrawal option is Play+ within four hours. Visa, PayPal, and Venmo are complete within 24 hours. There's a minimum $10 withdrawal, and DraftKings scores higher here, with a low $1 minimum for most of its 11 options."

    ApplePayPaypalvisa casinosVenmo
  • Market-leading customer support

We only recommend legit online gambling sites with responsive and effective customer service. BetMGM and DraftKings score highly here for their 24/7 live chat support. We reserve the highest scores for a brand like BetRivers, which is rare in also operating a phone line. It's owned by Rush Street Interactive, which won Best Customer Service Operator in the EGR Awards 2024.

Best US gambling bonus types

From bonus bets to no deposit bonuses, you can expect plenty of rewards for signing up and continuing to log in with a top online gambling site. Here is a breakdown of the most common offers you'll see:

  • welcome-bonus.svg

    Welcome bonus

The US online gambling market is one of the most competitive in the world, which has pushed casinos and sportsbooks to roll out increasingly generous welcome offers. For casinos, these are most often deposit match bonuses, while sportsbooks tend to offer bonus bets. Either way, the top-tier rewards can reach hundreds - or in some cases, thousands - of dollars depending on the size of your initial deposit.

    Casino welcome bonuses
  • No deposit bonus.svg

    No deposit bonus

No deposit bonuses are less common than deposit matches, but they hand you free casino credits with no upfront commitment. BetMGM is a good example, with offers ranging from $25 to $50 depending on your state (West Virginia tops the list). They're typically reserved for new sign-ups, but some casinos also extend them to existing players.

    No deposit bonuses
  • deposit-bonus.svg

    Deposit match bonus

Deposit match bonuses are the most common type of welcome offer at US online casinos. Your first deposit is matched at a set percentage - usually 100%, though some operators offer 200% or more. BetMGM leads this category with a 100% match up to $2,500, meaning a $200 deposit doubles to $400 in playable funds. Just remember that any winnings from bonus funds typically come with wagering requirements (often 15–30x) before they can be withdrawn.

  • Free spins deposit bonus

    Free spins

Free spins give you extra plays on slot games, often tied to specific titles or providers. They commonly come as sign-up bonuses, daily login rewards, or recurring offers for regulars - useful for stretching your bankroll, though usually with wagering attached. PlayStar Casino offers 500 free spins as part of its welcome package, spread across three deposits and playable within seven days.

    Free spins bonuses
  • No deposit bonus

    Bonus bets

Bonus bets are the main sign up offer at sportsbooks online. They are offered as extra credit to bet with when you sign up and make a qualifying minimum bet. They are also regularly offered to existing players, particularly during tournaments and big games.

  • cashback-bonus.svg

    Cashback

Sports betting sites can offer cashback as a return on any losing bets you make in your first day or so of wagering with the book. It’s paid in casino credits, and generally will be paid on net losses calculated against all your wagers over a specified period. BetMGM Sports offers up to $1,500 back in bonus bets if your first bet at the site loses.

  • VIP bonus

    Loyalty programs

VIP programs are available at casinos, sportsbooks, and poker sites. They're tiered loyalty schemes that reward players for wagering more, with extra bonuses at the lower tiers and personal account managers, holidays, or cars at the top end. The best sites enroll players from their first bet. Caesars Palace online casino is a benchmark example - its Caesars Rewards program awards points on every sportsbook and casino wager, redeemable for bonuses, hotel stays, and prizes across 50+ properties nationwide.

US states with legal online casinos & sports betting

Eight US states have now legalized real-money online casinos: Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Jersey, West Virginia, Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and, most recently, Maine, where the market is set to launch in the second half of 2026. All eight also offer regulated online sports betting, giving players in these states access to both formats under state-level oversight. The benefits of this regulation are significant. Licensed operators must prove their games are independently tested for fairness, protect player funds in segregated accounts, and follow strict rules around how personal information is handled. The result: safer, fairer play and stronger financial protection than offshore alternatives can offer.

States yet to legalize gambling

Several states have made legislative pushes toward online gambling in 2025–2026, though none have crossed the line. Maryland's SB 885 received a 2026 committee hearing but didn't advance, while Massachusetts' HB 4431 was tabled for further study. Virginia advanced two iGaming bills in the 2026 session but couldn't agree on a final version, putting any launch at 2028 at the earliest. Wisconsin legalized online sports betting in April 2026, though online casinos remain off the table. At the other end of the spectrum, Utah, Texas, Idaho, Alaska, Hawaii, and South Carolina show little movement, with constitutional bans, political opposition, or legislative cycles making near-term legalization unlikely.

Gambling payment methods for US players

The best real money gambling and casino sites will offer a wide variety of payment options for deposits and withdrawals. We like to see everything from credit and debit cards to e-wallets, Bitcoin, and other cryptocurrencies catered for. Take a look below for some of the best real money casino banking methods.

View all payment types

Credit cards
Whether Amex, MasterCard, or Visa, many players in the US prefer to use credit when betting online as they trust their regular card provider's inbuilt security and payment protection. They are widely accepted across US sports, casino, and poker sites, and transactions usually take around 3-5 days to process.
Debit cards
Debit cards are popular for gambling payments as, alongside their wide acceptance, they allow players to manage budgets by what's available in their account. They also offer great security and payment protection, like Mastercard's SecureCode tool. Similarly to credit cards, it takes about 1-3 days for these transactions to process.
Cash App
Make quick and easy mobile payments with Cash App. With 0% fees and over 55 million monthly users, Cash App is quickly becoming one of the most popular payment methods for US players.
American Express
American Express or Amex makes instant deposits to casino and gambling sites, though it isn't available for withdrawals. US players still like it for funding accounts, though, as it offers strong encryption and a 24/7 helpline in the US in case of issues.
Bitcoin
BTC gambling payments are essentially anonymous, as the casino or betting site will only access your wallet address, not your personal details or information. Bitcoin and crypto transactions are also going to be your fastest method, with instant completion for deposits and withdrawals.
Wire transfer
Wire or bank transfers are available for players who prefer to transact directly from their bank, without entering any card details or using a third-party provider. It can incur fees when used at casino or gambling sites, however, so we tend to advise bettors to use other methods that offer similar transactions for free.
PayPal
Widely accepted at online casinos and sportsbooks in the US, PayPal is a very accessible way to deposit and withdraw funds. It avoids having to share or enter any bank details with a gambling provider, usually completes transactions within 24 hours, and offers buyer and fraud protection for added peace of mind.
