Q&A with Daisy
What got you into writing about casinos?
"I fell into casinos through my love of soccer. After spending a year or two writing match previews and betting tips, however, I felt unfulfilled. At the time, soccer and casinos shared an unpredictability.
Just like on the pitch, when you joined a betting or casino site, there wasn't a solid way of knowing what to expect. There were a lot of rogue sites around, and I knew I wanted to do more to for players.
Writing for a site like Casino.org allows me to provide well researched and unbiased info direct to players. As a writer, it’s more of a challenge to uncover the truth, and as an industry enthusiast, it’s more rewarding knowing I’m helping people stay safe."
What's the first thing you look for at an online casino?
"For me, the first thing is the games. It’s probably not the answer my boss is going to expect, as we’re so keen on safety here, but I can’t help it! The bright lights and big titles always get me.
In all seriousness, a site having games from leading providers is always a great sign. Providers can be quite precious about where their games are available, so it shows there’s a level of trust and professionalism. It’s also become second-nature to always scroll to the footer on first inspection. Here you’ll find the site’s licenses, games certificates, and more."
If you could only play one casino game forever, what would it be?
"After years of writing slot reviews, you’d think I’d hate them by now, but they’re still some of my favorite games. It’s also a bit of a trick answer. With thousands of unique slots available, I’d never get bored. My top picks include the ever-popular Starburst by NetEnt, and Drop 'Em by Hacksaw Gaming."
Daisy’s areas of expertise
After so many years, Daisy’s breadth of knowledge is pretty impressive. That doesn't stop her having her favorite specialisms though!
- Online gambling in the US
As more and more states legalize gambling online, Daisy finds this market fascinating. She’s clued up on legislation, keeps her eyes peeled for new brands, and definitely knows her sweepstakes from her social casinos.
- Payment methods
Aside from being a gambling industry expert, Daisy is also an avid online shopper. These two passions come together to give her payment method knowledge that’s second to none.
Daisy's favorite iGaming influencer
Victoria Coren Mitchell
"Although Victoria Coren Mitchell isn’t really an influencer (and she’d hate to be called one), she is a fantastic poker player and a very funny woman! Eloquent and good with money, she's everything I’ve ever wanted to be."
Follow Victoria on Twitter.
What iGaming events does Daisy recommend?
iGaming events are notoriously fun but also very insightful. You can sit in on talks about the future of the industry and meet with providers and operators. Daisy recommends the SBC Summit and ICE.
SBC Summit
"I attended my first SBC Summit last year and I was impressed. With a massive exhibition floor and over 450 industry professionals presenting, there was lots to learn."
ICE London/Barcelona
"ICE London is one of the biggest and best events there is. What’s more, from 2025 it will be in Barcelona, which is close to home for me."
Daisy's casino memories
Best gambling experience
- "The very first time I played roulette in a bricks and mortar casino, I got very lucky! Only second to slots, roulette is one of my favourite games. I wish I could say I went home with a full wallet, but the night carried on..."
Worst gambling experience
- "During the 2020 Euros, I had really high hopes for England. When we went out on penalties, I was crying my eyes out at both the result and losing a sizeable bet. A double dose of sadness."
"I've always loved writing (stories, diaries, shopping lists...) but the beauty of this role is that I get to help people too. The online gambling world can be a bit of a minefield if you're not used to it. Here, however, I can use my expertise to enable players to make better choices."
