Q&A with Jemma
What got you into writing about casinos?
"When I decided to drop out of my Economics graduate programme in London, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do next. I found myself moving to Malta and discovering the wonderful niche of iGaming.
I’ve always been a writer of short fiction and love sports betting and playing at casinos, so it was a great fit for me. Since then I’ve learned all about the industry, working for both operators like LeoVegas, and affiliate brands like Casino.org. I’m still here happily working on reviews so I must have made the right call leaving the world of economics.
Writing for a site like Casino.org allows me to provide well researched and unbiased info direct to players. As a writer, it’s more of a challenge to uncover the truth, and as an industry enthusiast, it’s more rewarding knowing I’m helping people stay safe."
What's the first thing you look for at an online casino?
"Once I’m sure the casino is legit with a solid licence, I always head straight to the promotions. I like to see a mix of slot tournaments, cashbacks, and anything out of the ordinary. In my roles with brands, I wrote my fair share of terms for promotions so I know how to read between the lines of what operators are actually offering.
I do this before I even consider registering because if the terms and conditions throw up any red flags, I would guess there are a few other flags that would put me off. There are so many fantastic online casinos, why waste your time on ones that are subpar?"
If you could only play one casino game forever, what would it be?
"This is such a hard question. Do I go for a table game or a slot? I love playing roulette and I can be quite lucky with the number 20, but if I’m forced to pick a favorite game it would have to be Mental by NoLimit City.
I’m a huge fan of horror movies and this slot is as creepy as they come with a top prize of 66,666x your stake. It’s not for the faint of heart though, and the ‘insane’ rating for its volatility mean big wins don’t come along often but the theme and graphics are so good."

Jemma's casino memories
Best gambling experience
- "I went on a bit of a streak on an online live roulette table. I couldn’t believe my luck when I landed three winners in a row! I ended up winning around 100x my stake which was pretty cool."
Worst gambling experience
- "Also at the roulette table! This time I was in a land-based casino and I decided to up the ante a bit and went all in on red. However, my sister was chatting to me, and I missed putting my chips on the table, and lo and behold – red landed. I decided that it wasn’t to be my lucky day so cashed in the chips I had a left."
"I love working in iGaming. It can get a bit of a bad reputation, but I find that unfair. It leads the way in tech innovation and the level of creativity is incredible. In my opinion it’s one of the fastest moving industries that constantly changes and grows. I can’t wait to discover what’s waiting around the corner."
